Booty Queen Bec Donlan dishes on what’s in her gym bag, getting started in fitness, and the top NYC app you won’t find on her phone.
If you’re looking for booty gains, Aussie-turned-NYC Trainer Bec Donlan is your girl. I met this beauty at a Bandier Studio B event last year, and talk about making a good first impression. In minutes, I went from feeling nervous about a new trainer and class, to “Hell yeah, this is going to be fun!”
As soon as I saw Bec’s Booty Bands alongside a peach emoji with “Be a Badass with a Good Ass!” stickers greeting me on my mat, I was hooked. Between her good-vibes-meets-bootylicious energy and ability to make you sweat A LOT, it’s no wonder so many NYC fitties flock to her classes.
Although she gets down and dirty at the studio, Bec is a total girly girl! She loves makeup and massages as much as cooking and working out, which is why I was super excited to hear her story and see what she keeps in her gym bag.
tm: Share a little about yourself, where you teach, your classes and what makes them unique?
bd: Sweat with Bec is different to every other training brand, because it’s an all-encompassing lifestyle change with sass! My holistic approach works on a “whole package” mentality, building clients up from the inside out. teaching my Booty Band classes at Project by Equinox.
tm: Outside of what you teach, what other workouts or classes do you regularly attend?
bd: I love strength training and deal with A LOT of different people on a daily basis. At least 5 days a week, I like to train by myself. I use it as my down time to clear my head and reset.
tm: So…what’s inside your gym bag?
Whether sunglasses, fragrances or makeup, you can’t go wrong with Tom Ford. The ‘Noir De Noir’ scent that Bec was wearing is a warm, sexy blend of ultra-feminine florals. Think black rose and crocus flower combined with earthy masculine notes of black truffle and patchouli. And if you’re looking for the perfect summer scent, Mandarino Di Amalfi and Neroli Portofino, both inspired by the sparkling waters and intoxicating scents of the Italian Riviera, are a few of my favorites.
Adding one of these on-the-go packets to any liquid (hot or cold) will deliver 10g of Collagen Peptides. This gives your body a vitamin boost that can help support everything from healthier hair, skin and nails to improving joint health and muscle recovery.
Sweat Cosmetics was created by a professional soccer player turned girl boss. Her mission is to help women look good while working out, without clogging pores or damaging your skin. When she couldn’t find any beauty products that fit, she went out and created them with four of her closest friends. When considering beauty essentials for the gym, we also swear by this.
6. Jump rope
These are an every day essential! Bec’s Booty Bands come in a set of three, with light, medium and heavy resistance loops. The kit also comes with exercise instruction cards to guide you through the workout. They’re small and compact enough to keep in your gym bag for a little extra burn to your regular gym routine. If you travel a lot, they are a must have!
For starters, these are no regular energy balls. They’re Bec’s own Lavender Acai Balls – healthy, delicious and topped off with edible stars! Yep, this bad ass can help with your “cake baking” both in class and in the kitchen. Her site is filled with amazing and 100% instagrammable recipes, like Unicorn Peanut Butter Balls!
9. Ear Buds
The Sweaty Betty bag Bec had at the time of this interview is just one of many in her rotation. We both love her newest addition, an olive swing bag from The Transience.
tm: How much does it weigh?!?!
bd: About 15lbs. I know I’m disgraceful! My bag tends to become a black hole and things end up building up like crazy, haha.
tm: What are two things most people don’t know about you?
bd: Umm let’s see … I used to be a cocktail bartender in another life and can still make a killer drink. And hmmm another random fact, in my 4 &1/2 yrs in NYC I’ve never ordered Seamless.
tm: How did you get started in fitness?
bd: I’ve always been nutrition obsessed and fascinated by the way different foods can affect the body. I was working crazy hours in hospitality and needed to exercise daily to get through my 16-hour shifts. I put two and two together and decided that I love nutrition and working out, why not make it a career? Then BOOM!
